(Not so) Nice?

Can you be too nice? The August 2013 issue of ChildMagazine reckons you can. If we defie nice as being what you do to make others happy with you on a continuing basis, potentially putting your own needs last, the result may be that you essentially devalue yourself as a person. 

And as a child gets older, that 'niceness' can be seen as try-hard and weak willed. And the sense of exclusion this engendered then leads to the child trying even harder to please, resulting in further exclusion. 

The article posits that it might be smarter to be 'kind' than 'nice', if we define kind as including  your own opinion about what you think is best for another person, whether they like to hear it or not.
